Fall Pumpkin Vignette
Fall Pumpkin Vignette
It seems when fall arrives that pumpkins come to mind. We see so many different varieties and choices for our pumpkins. I wanted to make some pumpkins for myself and of course I had to use what I had on hand - some soft plush fabric from another project. Add something vintage and I have my fall pumpkin vignette.
These pumpkins are so fluffy and easy to make. You can find so many tutorials on creating fabric pumpkins so I am not going to show that there. If you want my way, please let me know and I can share it with you.
This vignette all started with this baby scale. I have had it for a long time. The scale itself is in great condition but the top of the scale is in bad condition. It's a shame since one time is had to have been so adorable. There is just so much rust.
I cleaned it up the best I could and then gave it a coat of varnish to keep it from getting any worse. I found it years ago when someone was ready to through it out because of the rust.
Back to the pumpkins. I made two of these white ones and then decorated the tops of them with some petals.
The larger one has faux leather petals on it and the smaller one has some fall fabric petals. I will show you how I created the petals.
I cut out 3 inch squares. This size worked for these pumpkins (they are around 6 - 8 inches high) but if you make smaller ones, then reduce the size of the square.
Fold the square into a triangle. While holding one of the the triangle, insert a needle with thread into the end.
At this point, I went back and forth through the ends to secure the bottom and to keep the petal intact. Do this for the other 4 petals. Depending on the size of your pumpkin, you may use more or less petals.
For the stem, I used these wooden pieces I bought last year. This person was having a sale of all kinds of items and one of them were these small wooden spindles. She did not know where they came from. I bought about 15 of them for $1.
I used 5 petals for each of my pumpkins. I hot glued them around the stem. These faux leather ones were a little puffy but I liked them. I used regular fabric ones on the other pumpkin.
I decided to add some other items to my pumpkins. Last year I went to a yard sale and got this box of wire. At first I thought it was yarn, but on closer inspection realized it was color coated wire. It too was a $1. I even got the box. I thought this would make some nice curls on top.
I wrapped some of the wire around a pencil and then around the stem and added some hot glue. I also had some rafia and tied it around too.
The third one I placed on the coffee table with some other items. I also used a champagne cork as a stem on this one and some curled twine.
Some fall pillows on the couch.
Here is the back of the scale.
I wanted to make a vignette that I could keep up through Thanksgiving. I loved how these pumpkins turned out. Hope you like them too.
