DIY Dollar Tree Spring Wreath
DIY Dollar Tree Spring Wreath
Since I am anxiously waiting for spring so I decided to make a spring wreath. I wanted it for my back door since we come in that door all the time. I also could not be too fat, since we have a screen door and it would squash it.
I saw these wooden bead wreaths at Dollar Tree and thought this would be perfect. Next, I had to get some sullies for it.
I found pink and purple ribbon and some flowers. I choose ones that were small in design since the wooden wreath was not large.
The first thing I did was to separate all of the flowers. I used a pair of snips to do this. I used two dark purple, one light purple and two pink flowers for each set. I wrapped each set with twine to hold them together.
Once I had each set done, I used some more twine to join both sets together. I cut off any extra stems that I didn't need so it would ly flat.
I attached the flowers to the beaded wreath form. I used twine to tie the flowers onto the back of the beaded form.
Finally, I made a bow using the two ribbons. However, they looked better in the package than when I took it off the roll. They were very sheer and you could not tell the difference in their color, but I had already bought it and used it anyway. I tried several other ribbons with them, but nothing worked.

Cork Patriotic Tree Garland
Cork Patriotic Tree Garland
I saw some painted corks on Etsy and thought this would be a great way to decorate my tree on the lanai. I had lots of corks, so it was the perfect thing.
How to make this garland. I gathered up my corks. I used all "natural" ones. The ones that are waxy don't work well. I taped off one end and painted it blue.
Once the paint was dry, I peeled off the blue painters tape. For the most part it was good. I would have to do some touch ups.
So I got out a small paint brush and just touched up the blue. I found it worked really well, just to hand paint it. When I made a few more corks, that's what I did. These were much better.
Next, I got a thin piece of wire and made a hook on one end. I looped a piece of twine over it and secured it. I used this to go through the cork and I could pull the twine through it as well.
Originally, I was going to paint the corks red, white and blue. the centers were to be white, but after painting the red and blue ends, I liked it that way and didn't add the white.
These corks will stay until after labor day. I even have lights on this tree. You can see that it is actually in a Christmas tree stand.

Vintage Metal Gym Locker
Vintage Metal Gym Locker
Several years ago, my friend who has an antique shop found several of these vintage metal gym lockers for me. I had them under a console table but had not used them in the new house yet.
We had our lanai (here in Florida a screened in porch is called a lanai) enclosed with windows and a sliding door to our outside porch and pool. It is giving me a chance to fix up that room with all of the things I have had put away.
It is a work in progress so I will be showing you parts of it as I get it done. The first thing I did was grab my metal basket to add some items to it.
First I added some covered books. I grab some old books and wrapped them in drop cloth material. I didn't want to glue the fabric so I taped it on. That seemed to work, at least for me.
Other items that I included were a printed sack, a fall candle ring and some vintage bobbins. I was just going through things I found in my garage.
I did have a white insulator that I added to the basket as well.

Beadboard Valentine
Beadboard Valentine
Last week as I was cleaning some wood in the garage, I found a piece of bead board that we used somewhere. My husband cut this piece wrong and we were going to throw it out, but I thought it might make a valentine for the front door.

Vintage Bowls as Centerpiece
Vintage Bowls as Centerpiece
Funny how things can become a centerpiece when you are trying to sell something. I decided to sell my set of Vintage Hall Autumn Leaf Bowls. I had them on my dining room table to take pictures of them. After a week of not selling, I thought of putting them away and then thought, why not use them for my centerpiece. And so I did!

White Wreath for Vintage Ladder
White Wreath for Vintage Ladder
Normally, when the holidays come, I see so many posts showing lovely pom pom wreaths. I always want to make one, but it seems that the holidays come and go and I don't get one made. So, I decided to make one early. (It is Christmas in July after all, right)
I have a vintage ladder in the spare bedroom and thought a wreath would look nice on it. So I decided to make a white one. Partly because it would go with the quilts on the ladder and partly because I had white yarn.
Although I liked it, the all white wreath seemed blah! Maybe I should have made it more random or used another color. How could I fix this? I had no other pom pom yarn that would work so I looked in my finer yarn basket. I use these ones for crocheting doilies. I picked out a beige one and then mixed the two yarns together to make new pom poms.
These new pom poms have just enough color in them to dress up the white wreath. I added a few here and there and I was happy. What do you think? Do you like the plain white wreath or the addition of a the beige pom poms?

New Office Space - Work In Progress
Creating a New Office Space
When Swedish wall-art company Photowall asked me to take a peek at their highly customizable wallcoverings, prints and posters, the timing was perfect. As with many people today, my daughter is working from home. Like most, she was using her dining room as her office. Then she decided to convert one of her spare bedrooms into an office.
She asked me if I had any pictures I could give her for her bare walls. I told her to check out Photowall for something to hang. She is an animal person and loves to travel, so I was not surprised that she picked this lovely World Traveler I
poster.

Bunny Butt Garland for Easter
Bunny Butt Garland For Easter
I wanted to make a new Easter banner this year and was not sure what to make. As I was cleaning out my fabric bins, I found some burlap. That will work. Now what kind of bunny to make? How about some bunny butts?

Buying the Right Drapes
Buying drapes is no easy task!
Any decorator will tell you, curtains make a room, but only when chosen correctly. When it comes to window treatments, it's a matter of color and fabric, length and lining, and custom-made versus off-the-shelf. With so many decisions, it's easy to feel overwhelmed.I was at this point. I needed some drapes for my lanai. Now most might think that it is only an outdoor place, so what's the problem. Well, on the right side of the lanai is where the sun shines most of the afternoon. I don't want my furniture to be exposed to all of that sun. (Now I must admit that I have not put all of my furniture on the lanai yet, I will explain that in another post.)
I was compensated for these drapes but all opinions are my own.
