DIY Garage Tire Rack
DIY Garage Tire Rack
When we were in Vermont earlier this month, my son was trying to clean up his garage for winter. He had 8 snow tires that were taking up too much space and asked what can we do with them.We tossed around some ideas and then I looked on Pinterest and saw a hanging tire rack and he said, yes, that works.
Now all my hubby had to do was figure out how to make it and he did.
The first thing he did was measure the tires because he did not want them to bang around on the rack. He wanted our son to be able to put them in and out but be rather tight.
Once he had those dimensions, hubby then cut some 2 x 4s that the tires would set in. He basically made a rectangle with 2 sides and 2 ends. He also put a middle support board.
(They already had the boards and only had to buy the chain and hooks.)
He was able to put 4 tires on one side of the middle support and 4 on the other side. I didn't get many pictures while he was making it because it took him less than an hour to make this rack. So my pictures are when he was done. My grand son helped him and we were all surprised that he finished so quickly.
On each end, he mounted heavy chains that would support the rack and all of the tires. Each end had a set of chains.
Here is a close up of the chain mounted.
Once it was mounted, they added the tires. Although he liked the results, he was a bit concerned about a middle support.
So he decided to have chain to the middle support board. Sorry but I don't have a picture of the tire rack with the chin added in the middle. This gave it more support.
My son was so excited to have the tires off the floor and out of the way. They are in the back of the garage so you can pull your car in and they are not in the way. A great project that took very little time.

This reminds me of something my Dad would do. He is one that will make any tool he needs to do a job and always has a solution to things. I always told him he should make some of the tools and sell them but he said nah.
ReplyDeleteDawn,
DeleteDad's are like that I guess. I know my hubby can usually find a way. Our son loves it when we come up. saves all of his projects and then gives his list to him to figure out.
Have a lovely day.
Hugs,
Bev
