Our 600th Party on Happiness Is Homemade

Happiness Is Homemade Link Party #600

Welcome to the Happiness Is Homemade Link Party #600!

WHAT A MILESTONE THIS IS!!!

I'm Katie from Love My Messy Messy Mess and it is my absolute pleasure to host our #600 blog hop as my last party for the month of August.

Looking back, I realized that I have been a hostess since 2015 - THAT IS 10 YEARS!  I didn't even realize how long I had been participating.  Not to mention I didn't even join at the very beginning of the party's creation, so this party has been going on for a LONG TIME!  It looks like I started with party #88 - holy cow!

We've had many incredible hostesses over the years and I am proud to say that both myself, Sinea from Ducks ‘n a Row and Linda of A Labour of Life are the longest standing original hostesses - thank you ladies for your time and care!  Beverly from Eclectic Red Barn has also been with us for quite a long time too, maybe at least 8 years, is that right Bev?

We are so happy to have our two newest hostess' on board - Susan from The Bay To The Beach and Esme of Esme Salon - whose enthusiasm and dedication is bringing a fresh new life to our party!

Even though our hosts have changed over the years, one thing still remains the same, our dedication to you - our readers - to bring you new and exciting content every week from your favorite bloggers.  We hope you enjoy exploring our link party as much as we love hosting it for you!

This Week's Features

To involve all of our incredible hostess' for this monumental party, I've asked each to choose one feature to highlight this week.

Linda's Pick

DIY Stretch Velvet Acorns

I'm pretty sure our resident Canadian blogger's favorite season is fall - am I right Linda???  She is so crafty and loves a good DIY, so I'm not surprised she picked this DIY Stretch Velvet Acorns tutorial for her feature.  Let us know if you make them!

Sinea's Pick

Not only do our hostess' organize each week's party but we contribute too!   Linda submitted this post for Chicken Walnut Stuffed Pumpkin and Sinea was all about it!  She especially loves the images Linda shared on her post - bravo!  This looks really tasty Linda, perfect for a single-mom's dinner!

Bev's Pick

Our hostess Bev is a HUGE DIY'er and lover of all things outdoors and country, so I'm not surprised she chose this post utilizing Pine Cone Decor from Fall to Winter for her feature.  I love using pinecones in my decor too, Bev!  I even have one hung in the house to help me tell if it's going to rain that day or not.

Katie's Pick (me!)

I love lemonade so much, it's one of my favorite summer time bevies.  Yes, yes I know summer is over BUT September is WNY where I live can still be quite warm!  So if you are looking to spice up your lemonade before it starts to get cold, try making this Electric Lemonade.

Susan's Pick

As a newly single mom of three I am always looking for cheap and quick ways to decorate, and with Halloween being one of my FAVORITE holidays, I know that this post Susan chose will come in real handy - Budget Friendly DIY Ghost Decor.  You don't have to spend hours or a small fortunate to making things look festive!

Esme's Pick

This recipe looks so heart-warming and mouth-watering to me.  I know that soup season is upon us but I'm always down for a delicious chicken dish.  Esme chose this recipe for Apricot Chicken with Truffle Oil Mustard and I'm not going to lie - I'm adding truffle oil to next week's grocery list to try this one out!

THANK YOU LADIES FOR HOSTING WITH ME THIS WEEK AND HELPING SELECT THE FEATURES!

I think I speak for all the hostess' when I say how happy we are to provide this space for content creators and readers to share and enjoy.  Please help us spread the word by sharing this party on your socials!

Creating Small Vignettes and You Are The Star

Creating Small Vignettes and You Are The Star

Happy Monday. I hope you had a wonderful weekend. Ours was pretty good.

I won't bore you with details, but we are dealing with my MIL who fell and broke her back. She is 97 and there is nothing they can do because of her age. It is hard on my FIL who is 96 and not sure what to do. Time will tell.

Have a great week ahead.

Creating Small Vignettes with Items You Already Have

Creating Small Vignettes with Items You Already Have

I love creating vignettes and I find that creating small ones is so much fun. You can use them anywhere and there are so many things you can use to add to them.

I have many vignettes around my house, actually I think they are everywhere, at least that's what hubby says.

Lets start with the dining room.  I found this pewter pitcher when I was at a church sale in PA in June. I also found the small rolling pin that is in there. I also placed a wooden and a wooden buckle, some flowers and a dolly. I must admit I have a weakness for wooden things. You will see as we go on.

This vignette is in the hallway between two bedrooms. This one has a sock darner, some dollies, a cookie cutter and two other wooden pieces. I might have to change this one a little since there is too many wooden things. You could add small picture frames as well. I find that I just look through my stuff and use what I have.

This colander is in the bathroom. As you can tell I have lots of dollies too, This one also has wooden spoons and there is a bundle of sticks. You can use what ever works for you.

This one is in a  bedroom.  I have a small enamel tray with a milk jar of marbles, some wooden pieces and a crocheted small purse. I also love to use old books as risers.

This one is in a pot that had no lid. No problem- dolly again, pine cone, an old door handle an of course some wooden objects.

Small baskets are another great tool to use for vignettes. This one has a pair of gloves, some lace, a plate and some wooden items.

This container is a silver lid to some casserole. I turned it over and filled it with dollies, thread spools, some wooden napkin holders, a wooden paddle and a tin scoop.

This one a a decorative dish. Not sure what it is exactly but it has a little scoop that goes with it. Maybe a candy dish. Once again some wooden things and some greenery.

This one is a little creamer that I added a dolly and a brass key. That little chicken is adorable.

For this one I used a gravy boat. It has lots of grazing on it. Dollies, wooden pieces, a couple of white candles and two keys.

This little dish was 50 cents and it was silver so I spray painted it white. As you can tell, more dollies and wooden things. I even added a wooden knob. It is endless of all the items you can use.

This last one here, is a small pitcher that I filled with wooden thread spindles. and a wooden mallet.

White pitcher styled as a vignette

As you can see, there are so many things you can use for creating small vignettes. Candles, small frames, dollies, vintage gloves, wooden spoons, any wooden pieces, rulers and crocheted pieces. Containers like small baskets, creamers, bowls, lids, trays, sugar bowls, sewing machine drawers.

Look around your house, you might be surprised at what you already have. If you are looking for items, check thrift stores for sugar bowls without lids, decorative pieces with lids missing. You can often find these are very inexpensive, then go wild.

I usually just go t my stash and find all sorts of things. Sometimes too much - therefore I create too many.

I also have some larger vignettes like this one. You can read about this one here
