My First Watermelon
I first planted them last July and they were doing well when hurricane Irma came and they were destroyed. I was going to wait until this July to begin again (that is the beginning of planting season, if starting with seeds), but I had some and decided to plant them anyway
I was worried since the weather was getting so hot and plants don't do well with all this heat. A few of them started to grow, but then rotted. However, I was able to get 3 large ones. I had been babying them and yesterday we picked them. I must admit that I was nervous that they would not be good.
I am not sure about the other 2 but the one we cut was great. We were so excited that it tasted good. These were not seedless as you can see.
It is always the little things that make me smile. You may remember that I posted about my first red carrots.
Although they were not very big, they tasted great. We had three batches of them. I am looking at other things to plant this year. I am really getting into my gardening.
I know many of you are just beginning to think of your garden while mine is done. Good luck with whatever you are planting. Happy gardening!

Irma ruined my poinsettia plant last year -she has rejuvenated and is beautiful again. Dang these storms!!! (we are in S. FL)
ReplyDeleteI hear you, the storms are terrible. I fear that we are going to have more this year since we are off to an early start. Glad your poinsettia came back.

Thankyou for featuring my dog post. It is the first time I’ve been featured, so very exciting.
ReplyDeleteWe are on the first day of Winter here. It was hard to get out of bed this morning because 1deg celcius. I took my daughter her dressinggown (robe) in bed or she wouldn’t have got up in time for the school bus.
Your watermelons are so red! They look tasty. We grew tomatoes last summer.
Regards Cath
Cath,
DeleteWow, that is cold. I can't do cold after living in Florida. I loved your story about your little man and glad to feature it.
Have a lovely weekend.
Hugs,
Bev
Well I know it’s warm in Florida, but we don’t get snow where I live like much of the US. I can grow most things in my garden. We did travel up into the mountains to show our daughter the snow, though.
