|Refinished Corner Night Stand|
Loved the cut out design of this corner stand. As usual I was not sure where it would go, but I knew that I would find a spot for it.
It was white when I found it at a consignment store, but the white paint was peeling off in large chunks. The color under it was somewhere between Kelly green and Christmas green.
Again, I loved the piece, but not the green showing through and I didn't want to sand it and let the green show through. It looked like someone had used latex paint over oil based paint the way it peeled.
I took a picture when I bought it with the paint peeling, but I couldn't find it for this article; sorry about that.
I thought about chemically stripping it and then decided to use my heat gun to see if the paint would peel off. It did, but it was a very messy process and the peeling paint became very sticky at times. You can see some of the mess in the picture below.
The wood underneath was not particularly nice and after peeling the paint I had to do a lot of sanding to get the wood smooth. I even had to do some repairs on the bottom.
You can see in the upper right hand corner that I had to glue the wood at the bottom. (I glued it and then put a clamp on it.). Finally, it was ready for paining.
You can see it in the corner where I added "doilies" made from some fabric that matched one of the pillows.
It works well in this bedroom as a cute night stand. Although the room needs additional decorating, the corner table puts me off to a good start.
