Memories at Tea Time
Memories at Tea Time
I am joining Katherine @ Katherines Corner for a wonderful Tea Time Tray Tour.
Tea time is a special time of day. I am a tea drinker so I enjoy it several times a day. My Mom's family was from England so tea time was always special. I remember having afternoon tea with my grandmother. She would make us special little sandwiches and a sweet treat.
My sister and I always thought we were so grown up. Once in awhile we would actually have scones and clotted cream. We loved the scones but were not sure about the clotted cream. We were little, what did we know. Now I would love to be able to sit with her and have a scone with clotted cream. I began to really appreciate clotted cream when I lived in England. Tea time is special there. I miss those times.
If you are stopping by from Life as a Leo Wife, thank you. I know you enjoyed seeing her tray.
So when asked to do a tea time tray, you might think I would make scones and clotted cream, sorry but maybe next time. Instead I pulled items that had meaning to me.
I started with this wooden tray that I got in Japan in 1980. It has a few nicks and scratches, but I love it. A lace dolly was next.
The teapot was a wedding present in 1971. I use it often. As you can see, my memories are rather old.
My tea cup and plate belonged to my grandmother. She had a number of these dishes and I managed to save a few pieces. I love this blue transferware. I often use this cup for my afternoon tea and just think of her.
Of course, you need flowers. My azaleas are blooming profusely.
I hope you enjoyed seeing all of my tea time memories.
Please stop by our next tea on a tray blogger - My Thrift Store Addiction
I hope you enjoy all of the tea trays that are being featured. Maybe it will inspire you to set out a tea time tray. I enjoy picking out a special tea cup set and enjoying my tea in it.

Thanks so much for sharing your memories with us Beverly! Your tray is lovely and made more so because of the meaning behind the items you used. I have never been a tea drinker but once a year when our daughter is in town, we treat ourselves to High Tea at the Brown Palace downtown. So special! Great touring with you today.
ReplyDeleteDenise,
DeleteThank you for those sweet words. My memories are special to me. Any chance I get, I try to attend high tea. If done right, it is so special. Enjoy yours.
Hugs,
Bev
Oh Bev, what a delightful tray you have created with memories and special things! I love all the different elements you’ve combined from the tray itself, the lovely teacup, teapot and plate, and wow homemade biscotti that sounds so good! I especially love the gloves and the beautiful way you tied them. I do remember wearing gloves as a child, and how wonderful
ReplyDeleteto have lived in England and experience their tea ritual. Sweet family memories, thank you for sharing 💕
Jenna
Jenna,
DeleteThank you so much for those lovely words. Tea time is always special to me. Although I did drink coffee at one time, I no longer do. I guess living in England and coming from an English background I am hooked. lol!
I think gloves are so precious to me since I also wore them as a child. What happened to that concept?
Hugs,
Bev
Oh Beverly I love all the memories you weaved through your tray. The blue transferware is beautiful and I really enjoyed the touch with the gloves. And can we talk about limoncello homemade biscotti?!? YUM! I have to go peak at that recipe. Fun touring with you today. XO- MaryJo
ReplyDeleteMaryJo,
DeleteThank you for the kind words on my tray. Gloves are a weakness. lol! One of the best things I have done is add the limoncello to my biscotti. They are now my go to ones.
Hope you like it if you try them.
Hugs,
Bev
Beverly, I saw your teapot in the collage and was eager to get a closer look. It really is special, and would fit perfectly into my home decor ;)

All your elements go together for this great tray, Bev, but I especially loved the memories of your Grandmother. Mine was very proper and would take tea each afternoon. I learned to love tea and the whole process from her. So nice to see another Grandmother sharing such great traditions.
ReplyDeleteLynne
Lynne,
DeleteThank you. Yes, she was prim and proper too. My Mom was a lot like her, but didn't carry on the tea time tradition. She was a coffee drinker. Any time I can go to High tea, I do.
Glad someone else has enjoyed that tradition also.
Hugs,
Bev
Beautiful tray! Love the silver sharkers! Pinned. Happy touring!
ReplyDeleteNiki | Life as a LEO Wife
Niki,
DeleteThank you. I am not sure where I got the shakers but I like them. Last night I actually looked them up and realized how pricey they were. I had no idea. lol!
Glad I have them.
Hugs,
Bev
I love your wooden tray you got in Japan, its very special.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I love this tray too even though I have had it for a long time.
DeleteHugs,
Bev
thank you for sharing your wonderful memories and lovely tray. They all made me smile. I never was a clotted cream fan.I never put milk in my teacup first either oh what a rebel was, LOL. Thank you for joining in the fun. Pinned! xo
ReplyDeleteKatherine,
DeleteThank you for having this tour. I do love clotted cream but no cream in my tea. I drink it black. You are not a rebel.
Hugs,
Bev
I love that you shared your special treasures - and the biscotti looks delish!
ReplyDeletePatti,
DeleteThank you, I like sharing memories. The biscotti was an accident that turned into something special. My new favorite.
Hugs,
Bev
Beverley, this is lovely! My dad's family is English, and my grandfather was first generation to immigrate to this country. I love tea time, so it's a delight to read about your memories through this post and to see your special details of your mom's and grandmother's pieces from years ago. Always a delight to see your posts.
ReplyDeleteSarah,
DeleteThanks for the sweet words. How nice that you grandfather immigrated to this country. So do you drink tea? I love keeping these memories alive.
Hugs,
Bev
I enjoy reminiscing and tea time is the perfect time. It's comforting and relaxing and can fill an entire afternoon. Your tea things are as precious as the memories they inspire. It was fun touring with you!
ReplyDeleteSandra,
DeleteI totally agree with you. There's is just something about spending time with tea. I love all of the memories that it brings me. I have love touring with everyone.
Hugs,
Bev
Beverley, Your tea tray is beautiful! I am a tea drinker and this post hit home. I used to have tea with my mother every afternoon. We still try to get together and have tea together. So special! Love your tea pot. Pleasure to hop with you my friend. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteMeagan,
DeleteOh that is so sweet that you still have tea together. My Mom is far away but when I visit, we still carve out some time for tea. I am loving touring with you.
Hugs,
Bev
Your tea time memories are lovely. It is so nice to hear how each of the items is something that summons up these wonderful recollections for you. I love the gloves! I only remember wearing them to church on Easter. Looking at my hands now, I have told my daughter she should make my granddaughters wear gloves all of the time to protect their hands from sun damage!
ReplyDeleteChloe,
DeleteI think are memories are to be treasures, especially when loved ones are no longer with us. We had to wear gloves to church on Easter all the time. I was probably in high school before she allowed us to not wear them. Good point about protecting your hands from sun damage.
Hugs,
Bev
I loved reading about your special tea time memories with your grandmother. And how special to have had time and travels in London and Japan! Your biscotti sounds amazing! Thanks so much for sharing! Kristin | White Arrows Home
