Restored Vintage Tool Box
Restored Vintage Tool Box
I found this vintage tool box years ago and just never seemed to have time to restore it. So now with some extra time, I decided to tackle it. It cleaned up beautifully. The problem is that I forgot to take a before picture.
The wood was so dirty and some of the trim was loose. I started by sanding the piece. I was able to clean the hinges up by removing them and cleaning them steel wool.
The screws were ugly so hubby found brass ones to replace the ugly ones.
One handle was in perfect shape. I just cleaned it with steel wool.
The handle on the other end was broken, but I cleaned up it as well. I did see that you could order new handles this this one online, but I decided not to buy one at this time.
I also sanded the inside of the top of the box. It had some fabric on it, but of course it was no longer there.
I cleaned up the inside of the box but did not sand it. The lock for the front was missing, but it looked OK without it.
I was going to keep it, but then decided to list it. The guy that bought it was so sweet. He grandfather had one just like it and it reminded him of his grandfather. I was glad that it went to a good home.
Another project done and out of my garage. Hubby was happy about that.
