Second criteria is that they are easy to make and these could not be easier.
Usually I make homemade hand pies like my Blueberry Individual Pies that I shared, but this time I needed something quick. My in-laws were having a flea market and I always make something for the bake sale. Problem was that I forgot about it.
Now I had to come up with something fast. I had pie crust and a can of cherry pie filling - hand pies.
I rolled out the pie crust some to make it a little thinner. Then I used a bowl to cut out circles. (around 3-4 inches, depending on the size you want.)
I placed a spoonful of cherry pie filling in the center of each circle.
I brushed water around the edges of the circles so when I folded the pie crust over, they will stick. I used a fork to seal the edges and make them look pretty.
I did an egg wash on each and sprinkled each with sugar.
I baked them at 400 degrees for 12 - 15 minutes, depends on your oven.
I was able to make a nice tray of them to sell with little work on my part.
That's it. You could add any filling and they would be good.
So if you need an easy and simple dessert, these hand pies just might be the right choice. You could make them larger and serve them warm with ice cream on the side. That would be my husband's choice.
