Ombre Dresser Gets an Update
In the spring when I was in Pittsburgh, a friend who had a store, was closing her store and she gave me a small dresser. Since it was small, I knew I could use it somewhere. It was painted in an ombre pattern of blues. I knew I wanted to paint it white, so the process began.
Of course I started the project before I actually took pictures of the piece. The darkest blue was on the bottom and then it got lighter until the top was a cream color.
The drawer on the left I started to sand down. The one on the right was the second drawer from the top. At first I thought this would be an easy update. Sand a little and then paint. No such luck.
The paint was clumping as I sanded it, it almost seemed gummy. At that point, I knew that I had to get all of the paint off. That took longer than I had expected, but what can you do.
The top has a piece that goes across the back and has a raised decal. Unfortunately, you could not make out much of the design. I have cleaned some on either side, but the middle is full of gunk. I used a pick and anything else I could find that would get the paint out. I was able to remove that piece which made it easier to work on.
This little piece that I thought would take a day to update, took about a week. Now I did not work on it all the time, but a little each day.
Once all of the pieces had been sanded, I painted it white. I used a brush and small roller to make sure that the paint went on smoothly.
