Visiting Cold Hollow Cider Mill
While we were in Vermont, we took a few hours off to do some sightseeing. We stopped at the Cold Hollow Cider Mill. People come from all over to visit this place. Even buses pulled in while we were there.(Picture courtesy of Cold Hollow Cider Mill)
They have many products from Vermont like Maple syrup, apples and cider and gift ideas. Although these are all enticing, what draws me here are the apple cider donuts.
They make their apple cider on the premises and you can watch them as they prepare the apples, place them on the trays, smash them and draw out the cider. So lets take a look.
First they cut up the apples and then they go into a hopper that mashes them up. (I don't have a picture of that) then it comes out of this tube onto these trays.
They start with a tray and then lay down cheese cloth material. Then they pump the ground up apples onto the tray.
Once the tray is filled, they fold the cloth over the apples and lay another tray on top and do the process all over again.
Once the required trays have been loaded, they move them under the press.
In this room where they make the cider, is a large barrel where you can get a drink of the fresh cider. It was so yummy!
Now, it was time to get donuts. I was so excited to get and eat them, that I forgot to take a picture. This one is from their website.
They make them right there and you can watch as the donuts come off. They are still warm and I want to eat a dozen, but I resisted. Did you see that they make over 800 dozen during fall foliage? That's a lot of donuts.

Wow, this sounds like such a delightful experience! The process of making apple cider donuts right on the premises must be fascinating to watch. I can almost imagine the aroma of fresh apples filling the air as they're mashed and transformed into cider. And those donuts must be absolutely irresistible! It's wonderful to see a place where you can witness the journey from apple to cider to donut, all in one spot. Thanks for sharing this unique insight into the production process. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for these apple cider donuts next time I'm in Vermont!
