Kitchen Makeover Part 2

We are remodeling our kitchen and in the first part, I painted the cabinets, we laid down new flooring and hubby redid the cabinet above the stove that would house the new microwave. If you missed it you can read about all of that here at Kitchen Makeover Part 1.

Now it was time for the appliances to arrive. I was so excited since I was getting a gas stove to replace the electric one I currently had. Of course all of the other appliances were exciting too.
Eclectic Red Barn: Microwave and dishwasher installed

Sorry, for some reason these pictures look a little blurry. So the microwave went in first. My hubby had to rebuild the cabinet above the stove so it could be mounted. (Did this in Part 1) It fit perfectly.

Next they brought in the dishwasher. All went well here too. Only two move to go. As the guys were installing the dishwasher, they said they didn't think the stove would work with the dishwasher. What??

As you can see in the picture above, there is not much room for the door of the dishwasher to open. We went to the truck and measured and sure enough, the stove would stick out too far and the door of the dishwasher would not be able to go down. Now what?? I did not take in to consideration the fact that with a gas stove, the handle is so much lower because of the knobs than an electric one.

I would have to get a new stove. Yikes!! Bring in the fridge.
The fridge we had before stuck out too far into the room so I bought a counter depth one. We had plenty of room for the extra width.

They bring it in and hook it up but ti will not go under the cabinet. I didn't take into account that the counter depth fridges are higher than regular ones. So now my fridge is in the middle of the room and the men leave.

Hubby goes and gets his tools and proceeds to tear out the cabinet above the fridge. Now it goes in.

Now I have a hole above the fridge. Hubby is going to remake the cabinet one of these days. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

It looks OK if you take the picture without seeing the top of the fridge. lol!! Well three of the four appliances are in and it's off to buy a new stove.

If you learn one thing from my mistakes, make sure you measure!!!

On the next part - installation of the counter tops. Stay tuned.

  1. Bev,
Looking great!! I have an extremely small kitchen and i am limited to buying the smallest refrigerator that is made and also the smallest stove to fit in the areas between counters and walls. And as for a dishwasher.....His name is Joe Barna!! A dishwasher would have taken up what little cabinets I had in the Kitchen so i have lived for almost 40 years without. But I do have Joe!! Thanks so much for visiting!!

  2. Debbie,
Thank you so much for the sweet comment. I am getting so excited for the counter tops and the back splash. It is a small kitchen but all of the white is making it seem bigger. I was really lucky to be able to get such a large fridge. I put the old one in the garage and it is nice to be able to store extras in there. Not sure how we can have so much stuff in the fridge and freezer but we do, I have two refrigerators at our main house too, Crazy.
At least you have a great dishwasher - Joe. I hear you - you need cabinets more than a dishwasher. You wouldn't know what to do with a dishwasher, but maybe Joe would. lol!!!
    Have a great week,
    Bev

    1. Nikki,
I can't wait for the gas stove to be installed. When I thought about problems we might run into, I had no idea to consider sizes and height. When I remodeled my other kitchen, I didn't have that problem. Just things to keep in mind. I learned that each kitchen is unique.
