Now I know that not everyone is into camping, but if you have a camper that does not have covers for the sink or stove, you might be interested in how to make a cover for your stove.
We were taking about what we want in a camper last weekend as we sat around the camp ground and everyone said, get rid of the stove. No one uses it - everyone cooks outside.
I am not ready to get rid of my stove, but I wanted some way to cover the burners to give me more counter space. The grate doesn't allow you to really set things on it.
My brilliant husband came up with an idea - make a wooden cover.
Here is the finished cover. He did a great job since he had to notch out for the grate.
He basically made a box - a top and four sides. He did it so quickly, I didn't have time to take pictures of the process.
You can see here where he notched for the grate in front.
Once he had it finished, I sanded it and then stained it. I thought about painting it, but the staining goes better with the inside of the camper.
Now I can use this much needed space.
This was an easy project - built a four sided frame as a top. He used cabinet grade plywood for the top and used side boards that he already had that were about two inches high. The slightly hard part was notching out the front for the burner. He cut the notches with a jig saw and then used a Dremel to sand it to the desired size.
If you have a camper that needs a top, check ours out. You might get inspired to make your own.

Hi fellas,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this wonderful article really!
If someone want to read more about that Stove top covers I think this is the right place for you!
Can you tell me the dimensions?
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry but we no longer have that camper so I don't remember what the dimensions were. We just made it to fit over the stove, so whatever size your stove is we made it a little bigger to fit down nicely.
