Mother's Day Gift - Woven Heart Basket

Spring is an exuberant season, as flowers and grasses pop up in all their colorful glory. You can purchase Mother’s Day baskets, of course…but there’s nothing like a homemade paper basket that your child can make. 

Help her/him make a Mother’s Day basket with her own handwritten message attached or some faux flowers. Okay, if you’re the mom setting this up, it may spoil some of the surprise, but don’t forget: you can also make this one for grandma, or for some other really cherished maternal figure in your family’s life.

This is the last weekend of April bringing the first third of a year to a close. I am always amazed at how fast the time flies and I am gearing up for an even busier May. A Mansion in Disrepair

Last fall while out for a drive, my husband and I came across this home peeking out from the trees. I hollered for him to stop and we got out. I was drooling looking at this house. I got my camera and took some photos. (Even though signs were posted everywhere to keep out)

Creating a Farmhouse Vignette

I do not live in a farmhouse. However, I love elements that make a farmhouse home. Farmhouse style is so popular and you don't need a farmhouse to enjoy some farmhouse decor. 

Many farmhouse items can be found in many of our homes. Here is a simply vignette that I put together with some items that I consider farmhouse style that you might already have.

Easter Decorating, but No Menu Yet!

My husband said, "this window is falling apart". He was kind of right. The one side was not so bad, but it was the other side that caught my eye. When I picked it up however, the paint and part of the window was coming off in my hands. For $1.00 I had to have it. I love old windows.

I didn't want to clean it up because I thought it might fall more apart. Instead, I just use it as is.

Low Carb Basil Balsamic Dressing

Do you love salads? Salads are my favorite meal. I could eat salad everyday and I usually do. Now that I am on a low carb diet, salads are a natural choice as long as you watch out for the dressing.

Do you have a favorite salad? I don't think I have a favorite, but most of mine usually involve some kind of chicken.

Don't you just love all of the healthy things you can put on your salad and they are so good for you. And then there is the dressing.

I made salads the other night with some great ingredients:
grilled chicken, kale, lettuce, almonds, feta cheese, shredded carrots, a few low-sugar cranberries and broccoli.

Balsamic Chicken with Brussels Sprouts

I am continuing my quest to eat low carb. I have found some recipes that I am either trying or making changes to. This recipe for Balsamic Chicken with Brussels Sprouts originally called for adding tomatoes. Since I am not a tomato fan, I needed to add a vegetable that would work with the chicken - Brussels sprouts. The combination was amazing.

Amaryllis for Easter

I bought some amaryllis plants a couple of years ago. They were in the clearance section at Home Goods. I wrote a post about the containers they came in and they bloomed beautifully. I was concerned that they would not bloom again but the next year they did and now two years later, they are blooming again. I am so thrilled.

It’s finally spring — which means it’s time for some pretty delicious fruits to come into season!

Personally, I’m a big fruit lover. Berries, citrus fruits, melon… give me a big fruit salad for breakfast, and I’m happy all morning!

Cheesecake is just one of those desserts  that you can make in so many ways: Chocolate, New York style, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Macadamia nut. Are you getting my drift here? Endless possibilities!
 
I bake for my husband's office often. It gives me a chance to make desserts which is my favorite thing to do, but hate having too much dessert around.

These Easter Mini Cheesecakes came from Kraft. I thought they would be great to send in and a little Easter thrown in as well. They are super easy to make.

Spring is officially here in the Northern Hemisphere and it is time to get outside in our gardens. Maybe its just me that is ready for fresh air and dirt manicures. Even if it is still cold where you are, you can dream about those delicious home grown vegetables and flowers, right?

Low Carb Mexican Casserole

I started on a low carb diet a few weeks ago. I lost 5 pounds in the first week and then stabilized for a few days and then have lost another couple of pounds. The one thing I have noticed is that although my weight seems to be at a plateau, I am losing inches. My jeans are starting to fall down. That is a good thing, right? 

One of the dishes that I have made several times is this Mexican Casserole.
